The Family Financial Literacy Coalition (FFLC) is a group of nonprofit, business, and government organizations working together to increase wealth for low income families in the Charlotte Metropolitan area. In partnership with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), the FFLC provides free tax preparation and financial coaching to low income individuals and families during the tax filing season.

Answer VITA phone line. Screen callers to see if they qualify for the service. Schedule appointments accordingly

Minimum 2 hrs/week Flexible locations and schedules

1 hr training on telephone scheduling and screening process

       

Greeter/Screener

Welcome tax customers to the site.

Provide intake forms. Make sure filers have all documents needed to complete their return. Screen filers to make sure they qualify for the service

Minimum 2 hrs/week Flexible locations and schedules

1 hr training on completing the initial intake/screening and review of required documentation

       

Tax Preparer

Complete basic tax returns for low to moderate income individuals

Minimum 3 hrs/week

Flexible locations and schedules

Free IRS tax law and software training. Online OR classroom training. Average training time 24-48 hrs

       

Asset Building Coach

Initiate a discussion with the customer regarding their financial goals. Make referrals from list of community resources based on customer needs

Minimum 2 hrs/week

Flexible location and schedules

Trained on the agencies that aid with financial needs such as credit counseling, emergency services, savings, and home ownership. 1 hr training time

       

Site Coordinator

Provide supervision and coordination of VITA site operations. Manage volunteer and customer schedules. Conduct quality review and electronic transmission of all tax returns

Hours vary based on VITA site. Minimum 20hrs/week

Free IRS tax law, software, and Site Coordinator training. Online AND classroom training. Number of training hrs varies based on level of tax law knowledge. Average 30-54 hrs
